The Artist’s Way.
Laura Clay’s work explores the intersection of bicultural identity, abstraction, and materiality, blending organic textures with structured forms to reflect the tension between chaos and order. Using handmade pigments, fine-line detailing, and layered compositions, she creates immersive pieces that invite viewers to consider the fluidity and duality of personal and cultural identity.
-
Laura’s practice is rooted in material intentionality. She works with handmade paints crafted from natural pigments, including cochineal—a rich red derived from insects found on Mexican nopal cacti. Used for centuries in Indigenous art and textiles, cochineal connects her work to history, heritage, and the artisans who came before her.
