THE VISION - Functional Fine Art

The places we inhabit shape our memories and identity. This collection is an extension of Windows of the World series, curated specifically for the vertical community of Milago.

Situated at the intersection of Lady Bird Lake and the Austin skyline, Milago represents a balance between nature and the urban environment. These works are designed to capture that threshold. By blending atmospheric cloudscapes with integrated floor numbering, we transform elevator banks from a purely functional corridor into a moment of arrival; grounding residents in their specific location while connecting them to the expansive atmosphere of the world outside.

The Approach

  • Art aligns with function. Art-as-Signage concept solves wayfinding challenges while honoring the building's new aesthetic.

    Strategic Design

By treating the project as Art-as-Signage, we ensure the pieces serve a functional purpose for way finding while honoring the sophisticated Charcoal Blue palette.

  • The Pilot

Trust is the priority. A single Pilot Floor is executed first to demonstrate value to residents immediately and secure a quick win for the building.

  • Quality

Hand-mixed pigments create depth and consistency across all ten floors. Durable, high-quality framing respects the budget without sacrificing the luxury aesthetic.

  • Final Reveal

April 2026 delivery of a cohesive vertical gallery that solves the floor identification challenge and provides a lasting, sophisticated identity for Milago.

Design Integration

30x40” Painting

20x24” Painting

Before a brush touches the canvas, the direction is set by the space itself. The surrounding materials, from the Gatsby Baker wall coverings to the Charcoal Blue trim, dictate the mood. These renderings illustrate the baseline environment and the specific material palette used to inform the artwork. The result is a unified aesthetic that ensures the art feels built-in by adding necessary warmth and texture.

THE CREATIVE CONCEPTS

To balance the New York Brownstone aesthetic with the practical need for way finding, I have developed two distinct creative paths. Both collections utilize the Charcoal Blue accent to maintain continuity with the interiors but offer different interpretations of the Timeless Modern directive. The following options explore the spectrum between classic elegance and contemporary abstraction.

N01. Timeless Elegance

The Roman Numeral Series

This direction offers a subtle, sophisticated integration of Roman Numerals blended into the atmospheric cloudscape. It balances the practical need for floor identification with a high-end artistic sensibility.

This approach leans into the classic, transitional style that aligns with the Timeless Modern  vision. The Roman Numerals provide a structured, architectural element that contrasts with the organic movement of the painted sky. It is legible as signage but reads primarily as fine art.

N02. Modern Minimalism

The Geometric
Series

This direction utilizes a sequence of floating geometric squares to represent the specific floor number. For example, the eighth floor features eight gradient squares set against the atmospheric background.

This approach is abstract and rhythmic. It creates a visual pattern that counts the floor, offering a contemporary and minimalist take on way finding. The clean lines of the geometry provide a modern counterpoint to the organic softness of the clouds.

Specifications

Sizing and Framing

To ensure the artwork harmonizes with the scale of the main elevator corridor walls (72-73" wide) and the new wainscoting, I have curated two distinct options for consideration. Please note that both the Roman Numeral and Geometric artistic styles are interchangeable and can be paired with either framing option below.

High Impact

This scale creates a significant visual impact, reading clearly as a major design element that reinforces the luxury feel of the building. It fills the wall space appropriately, establishing a true focal point for residents as they exit the elevator.

  • Canvas Dimensions: 30" x 40"

  • Framed Dimensions: Approximately 31" x 41"

  • Framing Style: A minimal, gallery-profile floater frame.

  • Finish Options: Bronze, Silver, or Matte Black to best compliment light fixtures and design accents.

Curated Collection

This option offers a more intimate scale that focuses heavily on color and design integration. The sophisticated frame provides a continuous color match to the Charcoal Blue and Slate accents in the building's design, creating a seamless, built-in look.

  • Canvas Dimensions: 20" x 24"

  • Framed Dimensions: Approximately 24" x 28"

  • Framing Style: A specialized profile for color integration.

  • Finish Options: Features unique Slate Blue undertones to match the decor.

I look forward to finalizing the vision for the Milago corridors. Please review the options above and confirm which aesthetic direction and framing scale best suits the design goals.
